After an all-around good performance from the team on Oct. 17 and 18, the Hawkeyes had their tournament run cut short on Oct. 19 when they were ousted from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional tournament.
The team had four players in the main draw after senior Brian Alden and sophomore Dominic Patrick made it through their qualifying matches. They joined senior Jonas Dierckx and junior Matt Hagan, who were automatic qualifiers.
They had 18 singles wins and one doubles win on the weekend.
Patrick highlighted the tournament on Oct. 19 by defeating Daniel Santos of Tulsa, the No. 9 seed in the tournament and No. 26 in the junior rankings, according to a release.
Dierckx, Hagan, and Patrick made it to the round of 32 on Oct. 19, but none of the three won.
“Overall I was very pleased with the weekend,” Houghton said in a release. “Now we need to show to continued progress next weekend at our last tournament and even more once we get into off-season training,” the release said.
The Hawks return to West Lafayette, Ind., on Oct. 25 for the Big Ten Singles/Doubles.
