An Iowa City man has been accused of having a marijuana-growing operation in his basement.
Bradley Askvig, 38, was charged Oct. 2 with controlled-substance violation and failure to affix a tax stamp.
According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers were given a tip that Askvig had a marijuana-growing operation in his basement.
He initially denied these allegations but eventually admitted he had a few plants for “personal use.”
Askvig invited officers in to see his operation. Officers found a room dedicated to growing marijuana, containing six plants inside a climate-controlled tent.
He had several different species of seeds and a half of a jar of harvested marijuana.
Askvig had no tax stamps, labels, or other official indicator affixed to any of the plants.
Controlled substance violation and failure to affix tax stamp are Class-D felonies.
