Expansion plans for one East Side Iowa City residential community, which in recent months have drawn public opposition, has been pushed for later discussion.
During a Sept. 6 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, officials recommended by a 6-0 vote to deny rezoning for future development of Saddlebrook.
The neighborhood, which has experienced aggressive growth over the past several years in the form of apartments, condominiums and townhomes, is located near Highway 6 East.
If approved, changes in the number and type of dwelling units from 73 manufactured housing units to 12 duplex units and 142 multi-family units, would take place.
An opportunity for a joint meeting with the City Council and the commission is required if there is an indication that the council will not accept the Planning & Zoning Commission’s recommendation.
The public hearing discussed and the first consideration will be voted on at the City Council meeting on Nov. 12.
