A Waterloo man has been accused of breaking into a residence.

Shane Wright, 25, was charged June 21 with third-degree burglary, second-degree theft, third-degree attempted burglary, and fourth-degree theft.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers took a burglary report from a woman who said she had lost jewelry.

There was allegedly no forced entry into the home. The woman told officials the only key holders were family members, a neighbor, and a cleaning service.

On July 25, officers were called to an in-progress burglary at the intersection of Keokuk Street and Highland Avenue. A description was put out for a male and female suspect.

Wright was allegedly found in the location of that burglary and after further investigation, officials linked Wright to the burglary.

He allegedly admitted to being involved in many burglaries with the female, who was also charged. He said they committed the crimes to get money for drugs.

The amount of theft was more than $1,000.

Third-degree burglary and second-degree theft are Class-D felonies. Third-degree attempted burglary is an aggravated misdemeanor. Fourth-degree theft is a serious misdemeanor.
