Incoming Iowa women’s golfer Jessie Sindlinger didn’t make the cut at the 38th Junior PGA Championship.

Sindlinger shot 29-over in the first two rounds of the tournament. She did not play in the next two rounds. Current leaders Kristen Gillman and Abbey Carlson currently sit at 4-under through 54 holes.

Sindlinger, a native of Charles City, Iowa, became just the second player in Iowa prep golf history to win four-consecutive state titles. She also led her team to two state championships in three years.

Hawkeye swimmers remain silent

Fourteen Iowa swimmers have begun competition at the U.S. Open Championships in Irvine, Calif., this week. So far, none have made the finals.

Two members of the men’s team competed in the 200 breaststroke — Quillan Oak and Andrew Marciniak — and neither finished better than 38th place.

Grant Betulius competed in the 200 backstroke and clocked in at 42nd place.

Manuel Belzer swam in the 400 freestyle and finished 54th.

On the women’s side, Karolina Wartalowicz turned in a 47th-place finish in the women’s 200 breaststroke.

The U.S. Open Championships runs through Saturday, and there are still Hawkeyes who will compete. Today, the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke will begin their preliminary rounds at 9 a.m. Iowa has eight athletes competing in those two events in both the men’s and women’s competition.

Brian Donatelli, who finished 72nd in the 100 freestyle, will compete in the 50 freestyle on Saturday. The preliminary rounds for that event will begin at 9 a.m.
