Iowa running back Mark Weisman was recently named to the 2013 Doak Walker Award watch list. The award is annually presented to the nation’s top college running back.
Weisman rushed for a team-best 815 yards and 8 touchdowns last season, despite missing time because of injuries. The 6-foot back also recorded 15 catches for 90 yards and a touchdown. His 5.1 yards per carry tied for second among running backs in the Big Ten last year.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum, which announced the watch list for the Doak Walker award, will name the semifinalists on Nov. 14. The Doak Walker Award Selection Committee will cast votes to determine the finalists, who will be announced on Nov. 25.
The committee will cast a second vote beginning on Dec. 2 to determine the winner. The recipient of the 2013 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on “The Home Depot College Football Awards” on Dec. 12 on ESPN.
Weisman joins Hawkeyes Mike Meyer (Lou Groza), C.J. Fiedorowicz (John Mackey), Christian Kirksey (Butkus), James Morris (Butkus, Bednarik, and Nagurski), and Anthony Hitchens (Butkus and Lombardi) on preseason watch lists.
