The Iowa City police will launch a Chaplain Corps program after several officers and chaplains recently attended an annual training conference.
The Chaplian Corps is a volunteer service composed of men and women who assist victims, officers, and their families. The services would include assisting with death notifications and suicide incidents, visiting sick and injured Iowa City police employees, assisting transients and the homeless, as well as providing counsel to department employees and families, among other things.
Iowa City police Officer Steve Fortmann was selected to be officer liaison for the Chaplain Corps.
