The Iowa City City Council will discuss the future of the 21-ordinance during its work session on July 23.
Last month, the Iowa City City Clerk’s Office confirmed that a petition submitted by two downtown bar operators, calling for the repeal of the city’s 21-ordinance, was valid.
The City Council has two options: approve the petitioners’ request to repeal the ordinance or put the issue in the hands of local voters.
The city councilors will discuss the petition at the work session preceding their formal meeting.
