Hawkeye Athletics Director Gary Barta announced the hiring of Lyla Clerry as an associate athletics director for compliance on Tuesday. Clerry joins the Iowa athletics staff after serving as an assistant athletics director at Arizona State for the past seven years.
“Lyla brings a wealth of experience and expertise in athletics compliance,” Barta said in a release. “She has a great combination of knowledge, integrity, and customer service. I’m excited to have her join our senior leadership team.
“Clerry’s hiring is part one of a two-part process that will separate the leadership of the compliance and academic-service areas. The change will better serve our coaches and student-athletes and is one component of the Athletics Department’s overall strategic plan that will be released later this year.”
At Arizona State, Clerry served as compliance director. She held similar positions at New Mexico from 2004-06 and Northern Arizona from 2003-04, while also serving as the assistant compliance officer at Oregon State from 1999-2003.
“My family and I are excited and honored to join the Hawkeye team,” Clerry said in the same release. “I look forward to working with the coaches, staff, and community to continue to uphold the high standards of the University of Iowa.”
