Another local resident has announced his candidacy for the Iowa City School Board.
Iowa City resident Jim Tate joined the race this week. He and wife Lily live on Iowa City’s Southeast Side, and their daughter, Rebekah, attends Southeast Junior High.
Tate currently works as a forklift operator at United Natural Foods. He previously served as a Marine from 1991-1995, both domestically and overseas, and he credits that experience with “strengthening his sense of service to others.”
“Whether it is my time in the Marine Corps or as an active member of my community, I believe a strong democracy rests on our obligations to serve the public,” he said in a release. “I see the School Board as a positive outlet for that belief.”
Tate outlined the following goals for his time on the School Board, if elected: fiscal accountability, greater transparency, and health improvement.
