Former Iowa women’s golfer Chelsea Harris didn’t have an ideal start at the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open on Thursday.
Harris enters today, the second day of competition, at 9-over par — she’s tied for 145th place — after carding an 81 on the first day at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.
Ha-Neul Kim leads the pack after shooting a 66 on the first day of competition. Inbee Park sits just a shot back in second, and four other golfers are tied for third at 4 under.
Harris began the day with three-straight pars before posting four-consecutive bogeys. She recovered with a birdie on the eighth and a par on the ninth, posting a 3 over score on the front nine.
The Normal, Ill., native then parred the 10th but recorded bogeys on the next five holes, including a double-bogey on the par-5 13. Harris parred the final three holes of the day, ending with a 6-over score on the back nine.
Harris will tee off on the 10th hole at 11:30 a.m. today with the same two players she played with on Thursday — Ayako Uehara and Jamie Hullett, who posted first-round scores of 3 over and 6 over, respectively.
To play over the weekend, Harris needs to finish among the lowest 60 scores after today’s competition. Those in 60th place after the first round posted scores of 2 over.
