A man was charged with reckless use of fire/explosives after allegedly throwing a “silver bomb cracker” into the street while officers were processing a bomb crime scene at the intersection of Washington and Dubuque Streets.
Steven Crittenden, 32, was charged on Sunday after the incident in front of Deadwood.
According to an Iowa City police complaint, Crittenden allegedly went back into Deadwood before coming out and attempting to leave on his bike. He then refused to answer any questions and told police he didn’t know anything about the fireworks.
Crittenden smelled strongly of alcohol, admitted to drinking that night, and admitted to having a beer in his pocket, the complaint said. He refused a search and was arrested.
Police later reportedly found two more “silver bomb crackers” in Crittenden’s front pocket.
