The University of Iowa officially recognized a fraternity colony that has existed since 2010 this past weekend.
Pi Kappa Alpha began as a fraternity colony in October 2010. Over the weekend, it was recognized as an official chapter on campus. The UI suspended university recognition of the chapter for five years in 2004 after a reported hazing incident, The Daily Iowan has previously reported.
Charles Suhajda, the Pi Kappa Alpha president, said it feels great to finally be official. He said it has been a long process and a team effort by all of the young men in the fraternity to be recognized.
Their motto has famously been Scholars, Leaders, Athletes, and Gentleman.
“On campus [we are] trying to be the best we can be and recognize [Pi Kappa Alpha] in the best light,” he said.
