The Iowa women’s golf team placed ninth at the Big Ten championships this past weekend.
The three-day tournament, featuring all 12 teams, was held in French Lick, Ind. Purdue and Northwestern crowned co-champions.
The Hawkeyes were in 11th place overall at the end of the first day but managed to claw up to the nine spot by the end of day two. Iowa maintained that spot through the final day of competition.
Pacing the Black and Gold throughout the championships was senior Kristi Cardwell, who finished 9-over with a final score of 225. That score was good enough for 12th in the individual standings. The senior tallied five birdies and one bogey during the final round.
Sophomore Shelby Phillips shot an 80 in the first round but came back strong in the final two, shooting 76 and 75. She finished with a final score of 231, good for 31st.
Just behind Phillips was sophomore Lauren English, who shot her lowest round of the tournament on the final day (plus-5), despite firing off three-consecutive bogeys on the back nine. She finished with a final score of 233, tied for 35th.
Also competing for the Hawkeyes was senior Gigi DiGrazia, who finished a score of 236, leaving her tied for 41st. Sophomore Nicole Rae finished 63rd with a three-round total of 245, and freshman Briana Midkiff, whose three-round total of 246 placed her in a tie for 64th.
