The Iowa women’s track and field team won the Lee Calhoun Invitational held in Macomb, Ill., March 12 and 13. The women finished with a total of 212 points.
Several individual first-place finishes and personal records highlighted the meet for the tracksters.
Among these was sophomore Khanishah Williams’ personal best time of 14.49 in the 100-meter hurdles, good for the top spot. In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman MonTayla Holder took first, clocking a time of 1:00.73.
The 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter relay teams also finished first. The 4×100 team of freshman Lake Kwaza, junior Raven Moore, Holder, and junior Zinnia Miller turned in a time of 46.07. The 4×400 team of Holder, Kwaza, Moore and freshman Kaitlyn Nelson ran 3:45.39.
Kwaza added a first-place finish and personal best in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 24.18 seconds to add to her impressive performance.
In the hammer throw, Hawkeyes swept first, second, and third places. Sophomore Annemie Smith threw 183-8 to best juniors Jasmine Simpson (181-6) and Ashlyn Gulvas (178-1).
The Hawkeyes will host Musco Twilight 14 on Saturday at the Cretzmeyer Track.
