The Johnson County Crisis Center is asking for the community’s support during its “Shower the Crisis Center” awareness month. During April, community members are encouraged to donate baby products, such as non-expired and unopened baby formula, diapers, non-expired baby food, and baby wipes.

Harmony Hauser, the Crisis Center communications coordinator, said it becomes difficult for the agency to spend money to purchase baby products, and it cannot use advertisements because it is a nonprofit agency.

“We do not have resources to purchase baby products,” she said. “Though we are requested by moms and dads on a daily basis.”

The Crisis Center serves more than 800 families per week, and a large proportion of the families have children.

The center has seen a slight fluctuation in the number of households using its services over the past four months. In December 2012, the Crisis Center had 547 households visiting; 621 visited in January, 483 in February, and 495 in March.

Hauser said the center has not received any significant donations thus far.

“We hope that the community will help it rain baby products throughout April at the Crisis Center,” she said.
