The Iowa women’s track and field team competed April4-6 in the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz. The Hawkeyes earned fifth place, totaling 63 points over the span of three days.

Among the highlights for the team was a school-record performance in the discus by senior Majesty Tutson, whose throw of 177-10 was good for third. Sophomore Khanishah Williams set a personal best of 5-11¼ to finish first in the high jump.

The women’s 4×100-meter relay team of freshman Lake Kwaza, junior Raven Moore, freshman MonTayla Holder, and junior Carisa Leacock ran a time of 45.61, good for fourth place.

In the 1,500 meters, freshman Lisa Gordon clocked a time of 4:37.85, which earned her fourth place.

The 100 meters featured a third-place finish by Kwaza (11.75) and a sixth-place finish by Moore (11.82).

Junior Annemie Smith finished fourth in the hammer throw with a personal-best throw of 188-4. Fellow junior Ashlyn Gulvas threw 188 feet, good for fifth place in the same event.

Head coach Layne Anderson was encouraged by his team’s performance in the shootout, particularly Tutson’s and Williams’.

“Both teams competed hard, and the end result was an outstanding overall effort for the Hawkeye track and field program … Overall, a successful trip to Tucson,” Anderson said in a release.

Next on the schedule for the Hawkeyes is the Lee Calhoun Invitational in Macomb, Ill. The event is set to take place Friday and Saturday.
