Iowa City athletics fields will not be open for practice or play in the coming week, the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department announced Thursday.

Athletics fields in Iowa City will remain unused during the week of April 1-7, and use of the fields during the week of April 8-14 is tentative, the press release said.

Parks and Recreation staff said that the recent cold weather and late frost conditions have made the fields unusable, and holding practices on the turf would cause more damage now than during any other time of the year.
