A Coralville man has been accused of strangling a woman to unconsciousness.

Dwayne White, 27, was charged Wednesday with assault causing serious injury.

Iowa City police responded to a report of an assault in progress. The female said that White attacked her, causing visible injuries and physical pain, the police complaint said.

The female said White punched, choked and kicked her. Police officials observed injuries to the victim’s lip, neck, eyes, and shoulders.

The female also stated she was choked unconscious for an unknown period of time. She exhibited several signs of strangulation including petechial hemorrhaging, raspy voice, marks to the neck, and loss of bladder control.

Willful injury causing serious injury is a Class-C felony.
