A local man has been arrested after he was allegedly caught burglarizing City High.
Forrest Weger, 29, was charged March 19 with second-degree theft.
School officials reviewed surveillance cameras and allegedly found that Weger had entered the school carrying a backpack. Officials later found the backpack near the location where Weger was found, the police complaint said.
Inside the backpack, officials allegedly found a diamond ring and a diamond necklace from Hands Jewelers valued at approximately $7,600. The police reportedly determined that jewelry had been stolen from Willowwind School, the complaint said.
During an interview with police officials, Weger said he bought the jewelry for $75 from an unknown person at RockTenn, 2561 Independence Road, on March 18. Information Weger provided regarding the person who sold him the jewelry could not be verified.
Second-degree theft is a Class-D felony.
