The Iowa women’s golf team will compete this weekend in the Mountain View Collegiate.
The 13-team invitational, hosted by Kansas State and Missouri, will be held this Friday and Saturday at the 54-hole Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., and will feature schools from all over.
Competing for the Hawkeyes over the break will be senior Kristi Cardwell, sophomores Lauren English and Shelby Phillips, and freshmen Amy Ihm and Briana Midkiff.
After they finish competing Saturday, the Hawkeyes will make the 118-mile trek from Tucson to Mesa, Ariz., where they will they will face off against Harvard and Iowa State at the Red Mountain Ranch Country Club on March 18 and 19.
The Hawkeyes expect Cardwell to continue to lead the way. She carded a final score of 226 (plus-10), which led Iowa and was good enough to finish tied for 22nd at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., on Feb. 24 and 25.
Freshman Amy Ihm will try continue her strong start as well. She also shot exceptionally well at Westbrook, carding a score of 228 (plus-12) over 54 holes, a career best. She will compete in both the Mountain View Collegiate and the matches against Harvard and Iowa State.
Two competitions in four days should help the Hawks shake off any cobwebs they might have.
