A local man who has been accused of driving into the Coralville Scheel’s and attempting to burgle the store has pled not guilty to all charges.
Joseph Moreno pled on Feb. 6.
The 23-year-old was taken into police custody on Dec. 29, 2012, and charged with attempting to burgle Scheele’s Sporting Goods store.
Moreno has been charged with first-degree burglary, reckless use of a firearm with property damage, carrying weapons, OWI, and first-degree criminal mischief.
According to an Iowa City police press release, it was found that prior to the break in at Scheel’s, Moreno discharged a handgun in an apartment. Moreno’s roommates were found unharmed.
A search warrant for the apartment was issued, and police reportedly found that the handgun had been discharged several times in the apartment. No one was found harmed. Because of these events, additional charges were added to Moreno’s case including reckless use of a firearm with property damage, carrying weapons, OWI, and first-degree criminal mischief.
