A local man has been arrested after allegedly exchanging money and baggies of marijuana with a classmate at Tate High.
John Mitchell Jr., 18, was accused Feb. 7 with a controlled-substance violation.
Iowa City police responded after receiving a report of a student in possession of marijuana. A witness said that Mitchell made a hand-to-hand exchange with a classmate of money and two “dime baggies” of marijuana.
Mitchell said that he was only sharing his marijuana with his classmate, the police complaint said. Mitchell also reportedly admitted to having up to five more bags of marijuana. Police officials located five 1-inch square bags of marijuana and a $20 bill folded separate from another $46 in his pocket.
A controlled-substance violation is a Class-D felony.
