An Iowa City man has been accused of carrying concealed firearms after he was pulled for running a stop sign in Iowa City.

According to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office complaint, Christopher Lenz, 37, 17 Modern Way, was charged Oct. 31 with possession of concealed weapons.

Lenz was allegedly driving a black 2000 Honda Accord before being stopped at Herbert Hoover Highway and Dolphin Dr. after running a stop sign.

During the ensuing traffic stop, the sheriff’s deputy asked Lenz if any weapons were in the vehicle. Lenz proceeded to show the Deputy a 3” dagger or “throwing dart” that had been in the center console. Three throwing knives were located in the armrest compartment of the center console as well. Lenz also admitted to having a “junky” stun gun in the glove compartment and a 24” expandable baton in the center area of the car, the complaint said.

Possession of concealed firearms is an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable up to two years in prison with a maximum fine of $6,250.
