A Coralville man has been accused of holding a woman hostage in her apartment.
According to a Coralville police complaint, Aric Hopkins, 39, 416 Sixth Ave. Apt. 1, was charged Monday with domestic-abuse assault causing bodily injury.
Officers were dispatched to the location and spoke to Hopkins, who said that he had been in a physical altercation with a woman. Officers spoke to the woman who said that Hopkins would not let her leave her apartment, held her down to the ground, and placed his hands around her neck, impairing her breathing. She complained of a sore neck and said that she was unable to breathe, the complaint said.
Hopkins eventually admitted to placing his hands around her neck but said it was to only scare the victim.
Domestic abuse causing bodily injury is a Class-D felony punishable up to five years in prison with a maximum fine of $7,500.
