A local man has been accused of driving on the incorrect side of the road.

Emanuel Cano, 31, 2130 Muscatine Ave., was charged Oct. 19 with third-offense OWI and driving while barred.

According to a North Liberty police complaint, Cano was driving a white Chevrolet Impala southbound in the northbound lane. Cano allegedly nearly struck numerous cars head on, using both lanes of travel before crashing into the median.

Cano smelled strongly of alcohol, had numerous open containers of beer in the vehicle, appeared to have bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, and had an overall lethargic appearance.

Cano has had a total of six convictions in the last 12 years.
