The Iowa City Downtown District is asking local knitters to volunteer for its new Tree Huggers Project — a community operation to cover more than 90 trees downtown with multicolored "sweaters."
According to a press release, Downtown District officials have already identified, mapped, and measured more than 90 trees that will be covered by these knitted sweaters.
There is no cost to participate in the project, and several upcoming “knit-a-thons” are being planned in locations including the Iowa City Public Library and Home Ec Workshop.
Officials hope to have the sweaters completed and installed by the first week of November, the release said.
