Family Groove Company is a four-piece jam band that has been touring heavily since 2006. Though the band is based in Chicago, the foursome met in Los Angeles in 2001.
The group will play at 9 p.m. at Gabe’s, 330 E. Washington St., on Friday. Admission is $7.
The band describes its sound as "groove-informed jazz/rock." However, it is known for improvising during live shows and is regarded by many as a jam band.
During its relentless touring of more than 400 shows in nearly 30 states, the band members performed at many popular music festivals, including Summerfest in Milwaukee, Summercamp in Chillicothe, Ill., and 10,000 Lakes Festival in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Family Groove Company has managed to release three studio albums since its formation, despite its intense touring schedule — Reachin’ (2002), The Charmer (2006), and Models and Metrics (2008).
