Iowa senior Sonja Molnar finished her run at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., on Thursday.
Molnar finished with a (6-0, 3-6, 10-7) victory over Anais Dallara of Long Beach State. Dallara was a first-team All-Big West selection in 2009-10 and in 2010-11, with a singles record of 27-10.
Molnar, an Ontario native, ranked No. 65 in the tennis association preseason poll, posted a 2-1 record at the tournament, and she has a 6-1 overall record this season.
UCLA’s McCall Jones, the No. 33 player in the country, dealt Molnar her only loss, (6-2, 6-3), on Tuesday. Molnar came back after the loss and posted a (6-3, 7-5) win over Illinois’ Rachael White, who was ranked No. 67 in the preseason poll.
Molnar ends her tennis-association championship career with a 7-6 record in three trips to the tournament; 11 of her 13 matches were against ranked opponents.
The senior will return to Iowa City, then head to the tennis-association regionals in Tulsa, Okla., with the rest of the Hawkeye women’s tennis team on Oct. 20-24.
