Jam band Wookiefoot will play at 10 p.m. at Gabe’s, 330 E. Washington, with Insectoid. Admission is $10.
The Minneapolis-based ensemble, composed of more than 10 members and described on its website as “a high energy magical phenomenon sustained by a beautiful family of players and believers,” leans heavily on reggae influences. It regularly incorporates social activism into its lyrics.
Wookiefoot targets genetically modified organisms in “Junk Food,” for example, and encourages listeners to engage their community on a personal level in “Home Free.”
The band is also notable for its charity work — along with the Harmony Park Community, Wookiefoot has raised more than $237,000 international relief and sustainable development efforts. The band also curates the Project Earth Festival as a fundraiser, and some members traveled to Indonesia and Thailand this winter as part of their mission.
