The Iowa women’s track and field team announced its 2011-12 recruiting class on Wednesday.
Three international student-athletes wills join the Hawkeyes, including Annemie Smith from George, South Africa, who will compete in the hammer throw.
The two other international student-athletes hail from Germany. Mareike Schrulle will join the distance group, running a variety of events, including the 3K, 3K steeplechase, and 5K.
Victoria Sack is the second German joining the squad, competing as a long sprinter and middle-distance runner.
Burlington native Khanisha Williams signed on to compete in the high jump and other events.
The remaining two future Hawkeyes come from Illinois. Kayla Beattie of Woodstock joins as a distance runner in cross-country and track. She will graduate first in her class of 278, and she set three state records at the Prep Top Times Meet.
The final Hawkeye is Maisie Vachuska of Chicago, who can compete in a variety of events in the middle-distance and distance group from the 400 meters up to three miles.
