Iowa men’s basketball sophomore guard Cully Payne has been granted his release from Iowa and will transfer, Hawkeyereport.com’s Tom Kakert reported late Tuesday night.
A Tweet from Payne Tuesday was consistent with that report.
“It’s about that time that I close this chapter in my life and get ready to move on,” he wrote.
The Schaumburg, Ill., native took a medical redshirt this past season after recovering from sports hernia surgery in November. He averaged 8.7 points per game while starting all 32 of Iowa’s contests as a true freshman in 2009-10.
