Two Iowa City police officers received promotions that will take effect next month.
Sgt. Mike Brotherton will be promoted to the rank of police lieutenant, and Officer David Droll will be promoted to police sergeant. Both promotions will be effective March 20.
Brotherton, who has been with the department since 1978, has held the position of sergeant since 1996. His current assignment is sergeant for the Street Crimes Action Team.
Droll has been with the Iowa City police since 1991. He is the president of the Iowa City Police Officer’s Association.
Both graduated from the University of Iowa.
The promotions are in conjunction with the retirement of Lt. Danny Sellers, effective on March 31.
Sellers has been with the police since 1970.
