UI students could see a 6 percent tuition increase next year if the state Board of Regents approves the proposal Feb. 4.
In addition to the tuition increase, certain majors at the UI will see separate jumps.
Juniors and seniors in engineering may pay an additional $250 to complete a four-year plan presented to the regents five years ago.
College of Education graduate majors could pay an additional $1,350 to expand its capacity and law students could pay an additional $1,200 for programming and student services.
Medical students’ tuition may also increase in order to match resident tuition to the UI’s peer institutions and slow the rate of increasing nonresident tuition.
Tuition for resident medical students enrolled before the 2007 fall semester could increase by 7.6 percent, and tuition for resident students enrolled in the 2007 fall semester though the 2010 fall semester by 6.7 percent.
Nonresident medical students could see an increase of 4.2 percent.
All numbers are subject to change after the legislative session.
