A University of Iowa student was charged with sexual assault on May 6, following an incident in the early morning hours of Feb. 8.
Cameron Frattalone, a 19-year-old UI student, was charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony according to Iowa code.
A class C felony in Iowa is punishable by a prison term of up to 10 years and a fine ranging from $1,370 to $13,660.
According to the criminal complaint, Frattalone allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with the survivor while they were incapacitated and physically helpless due to intoxication. The complaint states the survivor had no memory of the incident.
According to the search warrant application video footage from The Summit, an Iowa City bar, showed the survivor’s head down and unresponsive, eventually vomiting and being asked to leave by security.
The driver confirmed picking up Frattalone, his friend, and the survivor at 1 a.m. and said the survivor was passed out the entire trip, per the application.
Hillcrest Residence Hall footage showed Frattalone and his friend carrying the survivor into the hall, with the survivor not being able to walk by themself. According to the application the survivor looked unconscious or nearly unconscious. Additional video shows the friend leaving Hillcrest Hall by himself.
The complaint also states that a sexual assault kit confirmed that sexual contact had occurred.
According to the application for a search warrant, following the incident Feb. 8, the survivor and a friend met with Frattalone to retrieve the skirt she was wearing.

The survivor secretly recorded the conversation in which the victim said, “You know what you did, right?”
“Jaden told me what I did, but I don’t remember it … I’m sorry and I’m tweaking out right now about it,” Frattalone said in the video.
The recording was turned into the police department, with video surveillance at Catlett Residence Hall also capturing the interaction.
According to court documents, Frattalone was released on a $10,000 bond on May 6. The court also approved Frattalone to leave the state and reside with his parents.
