Less than a week after the commencement of the 2026 NFL Draft, held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Iowa kicker Drew Stevens has signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent, per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
A four-time All-Big Ten selection, Stevens joins a growing list of Hawkeyes headed to the pros after this season’s 9-4 run, which ended with a 34-27 victory over No. 14 Vanderbilt in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31, 2025.
With seven players picked outright in the draft’s seven rounds, including offensive lineman Gennings Dunker to the Pittsburgh Steelers and cornerback TJ Hall to the New Orleans Saints, veteran head coach Kirk Ferentz officially surpassed 100 players drafted in his tenure.
In the aftermath, multiple other Hawkeyes signed as free agents, including quarterback Mark Gronowski with the Miami Dolphins.
The Commanders had previously utilized kicker Matt Gay this past season, but released him in November. In March, the program re-signed Jake Moody, whom Stevens now joins on the roster.
For his part, Stevens is currently Iowa’s all-time program leader in made field goals, going 76-of-95 in four years, good for an 80 percent mark. For extra points, Stevens was 124-of-126 in his college career.
In this season’s 18-16 loss to No. 9 Oregon on Nov. 8, Stevens drilled in a career-long of 58 yards, also an Iowa record.
