The Miami Dolphins signed former Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft on Saturday, April 25. Gronowski joins fellow Hawkeye Max Llewellyn with the Dolphins.
The Dolphins signed quarterback Malik Willis to a three-year, $67.5 million deal on March 12, 2026. Former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is currently the backup quarterback for the Dolphins, meaning Gronowski will have to battle for a spot on the depth chart behind Willis.
Gronowski spent four years at South Dakota State before transferring to Iowa in 2025, and is the winningest quarterback in NCAA history with 58 victories in his career. The Naperville, Illinois, native threw for 1,741 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Hawkeyes in 2025, and rushed for a program-record 16 touchdowns.
The former Jackrabbit was the 2023 Walter Payton Award winner, given to the most outstanding player in FCS. In that season, Gronowski threw for 3,058 yards with a 68 percent completion rate and 29 touchdowns to five interceptions. Gronowski rushed for 402 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023, as well.
Gronowski ranked second on the team in rushing yards with 545 yards, and led the team to a 9-4 record and a top-20 finish in the final AP Poll as Iowa finished No. 17.
The 6-foot-2 quarterback finished his lone Hawkeye season with a ReliaQuest Bowl victory over No. 14 Vanderbilt, where he went 16-for-22 through the air for a season-high 212 yards and two touchdowns. Gronowski rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown as well.
Gronowski’s season-high in rushing yards came against Penn State, where he ran for 130 yards and set up the go-ahead touchdown with a 67-yard run late in the fourth quarter. He ultimately sealed the game with a 14-yard run on a fake handoff keeper to the left side.
