Iowa men’s basketball landed sophomore big man Andrew McKeever through the transfer portal on Saturday, April 18. Joining the Hawkeyes with two seasons of eligibility remaining, McKeever averaged 8.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 23.2 minutes across 33 contests with Saint Mary’s this season. His rebounding stats, per ESPN, place him at No. 27 in the nation.
According to On3, McKeever was the No. 14 in their 2026 Transfer Portal Player Rankings. As a redshirt freshman in the 2024-25 season, the big saw 20 games and no starts. In 2025-2026, McKeever’s playing time increaesd to 33 contests and 10 starts.
Standing at 7-foot-3 and 285 pounds, McKeever’s will likely replace junior Alvaro Folgueiras, who recently entered the portal himself.
The 2025-26 season saw Saint Mary’s clinch a spot in the Big Dance for their fifth consecutive season, playing No. 10-seeded Texas A&M as a No. 7 seed in the first round. There, the Gaels fell, 63-50, with the Livermore, California, native picking up eight rebounds and four assists.
With Iowa netting a 24-13 overall record this season, head coach Ben McCollum’s first at the helm, as well as 10-10 in conference action and the program’s first Elite Eight berth since 1987, McKeever chose the Hawkeyes over suitors that included Michigan, Purdue, Arizona State, and Ole Miss.
McKeever is the second player to join the Hawkeyes this transfer portal cycle, which officially opened on April 7 and will close on April 21.
The center joins Illinois State transfer Ty’Reek Coleman, a 6-foot-2 freshman guard with three seasons of eligibility remaining. The two will join 10 returners that include starters Cooper Koch, Cam Manyawu, and Kael Combs from this past season.
