Iowa women’s basketball saw a fourth player enter the transfer portal on Monday morning in sophomore guard Teagan Mallegni, per multiple reports.
Mallegni saw a hot start as a freshman at Iowa during the Hawkeyes’ 2024-25 campaign. Ranked the No. 64 overall prospect in her class by ESPN, Mallegni’s 14 points against NIU on Nov. 6, 2024, were the most by a true freshman in their debut since Caitlin Clark.
A native of McFarland, Wisconsin, Mallegni appeared in 15 games for the Hawkeyes this season, notching a season-high 10 points, two boards, and four assists in Iowa’s 81-52 victory at Wisconsin on March 1.
Those 15 contests, however, are only half of the 30 games the guard played in as a freshman during last year’s campaign, where she finished with 97 points and 64 rebounds.
Mallegni’s 2025-26 season, meanwhile, was marred by an ankle injury early on, as well as a stint of tonsillitis. Mallegni saw her playing time diminish to 5.5 minutes per game, where she averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds. She averaged 2.6 points per game over two seasons with the Hawkeyes.
Mallegni joins three teammates in the transfer portal, namely junior Kennise Johnson, sophomore Callie Levin, and five-star freshman Addie Deal. Mallegni’s own entrance is marked by a “do-not-contact” tag.
Following these transfers, as well as the departure of Kylie Feuerbach, Hannah Stuelke, and Taylor McCabe due to graduation, Iowa currently retains six players from this campaign, including Mallegni’s fellow sophomores Taylor Stremlow, Ava Heiden, Emely Rodriguez, and Chazadi ‘Chit-Chat’ Wright.
Next year’s roster will also include McKenna Woliczko, Iowa’s highest-rated commit since Caitlin Clark.
