Around one thousand protesters gathered in Iowa City Saturday morning for the third No Kings protest organized by Indivisible Iowa.
Protesters of all ages marched around downtown Iowa City, sang, and made posters to express their dissatisfaction with the Trump administration.
Speakers included organizers from Escucha Mi Voz, Indivisible, and Mazahir Salih, an Iowa City City Councillor.
Two protest art installations were set up on the street and sidewalk. The first one depicted President Trump on one side of a giant scale, outweighed by positive sentiments like hope, family, and community. The second, a chainlink cage, represented ICE detention centers. Protesters were urged to symbolically take down the latter at the end of the event.
Luna’s Taco’s set up a stand to cater the event. There were also stands from local organizations Moms For Action and Young Democratic Socialists of America.
The protest began with poster-making at 9am, and ended around noon.
