The No. 2 seed Iowa Hawkeyes fell to the No. 10 seed Virginia Cavaliers, 83-75, in the second round of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City on Monday.
Virginia kept the Hawkeyes’ offense to making just 37% of their shots, while the Cavaliers shot 33% from the three-point line.
“Overall, a heck of a year,” Iowa head coach Jan Jensen said in a post-game press conference. “This type of ending, definitely disappointing. But when I briefly looked at the box score, I don’t believe we deserved to win it. Virginia, hats off.”
Jensen is in her second year as head coach at Iowa, and has made it to the second round of the tournament both years.
Virginia will take on the No. 3 seed TCU in the Sweet Sixteen in Sacramento.
