The time for heart-shaped decorations and overpriced chocolates has arrived, bringing love to the frigid winter air coating the nation. Whether in a relationship and looking for something to watch together, or for someone single who still wants to partake in a night of romance, there’s a film for everyone to watch this Valentine’s Day.
1. 10 Things I Hate About You
There’s nothing better than the original enemies-to-lovers plotline. “10 Things I Hate About You” is a foundational rom-com film, where younger sister, Bianca, can’t start dating until her older sister, Kat, finally eases up on her stance against men. With a scheme to get Kat to fall in love by paying off the only man not afraid of speaking to her, real love finds a way to blossom against all odds in the only Shakespeare adaptation I’ve ever seen that doesn’t bore me by sounding like a Shakespearean play.
2. 50 First Dates
What’s harder than getting a girl to fall for you: having to do it again every day. Starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, “50 First Dates” follows Henry as he falls for the girl of his dreams, Lucy. The problem: Lucy has no short-term memory, and as each day passes, she loses her memories of that day’s events. However, Henry isn’t giving up on his dream girl, and what occurs is a classic Sandler comedy featuring love and perseverance.
3. Clueless
“Clueless” is an iconic rom-com, with a main character relatable to all of us poor drivers out there. Emboldened by the success of a perfect pairing between her professors, matchmaking expert Cher, who has no interest in guys herself, decides to help the new girl at school, Tai, find love. As the perfect, popular girl at school, Cher is unprepared for the consequences of Tai’s growing popularity, which begins to outshine her own. Left with only the wise words from the guy she’s constantly picking on, Cher is left to reevaluate how she acts and who she begins to fall for.

4. No Reservations
A popular trope in the romance genre is rivalry, and “No Reservations” does rivalry like no other. Kate is a boss in the kitchen, perfectly organized and strict on business. However, she’s completely unprepared for motherhood, which has been thrust upon her after she obtains guardianship of her young niece. As if life couldn’t get any more chaotic for Kate, a new chef, Nick, is brought into the kitchen, and he’s the total opposite of Kate in every way. Together, the two rival chefs need to learn to work together, for both the restaurant and Kate’s niece are in jeopardy if they don’t.
5. Titanic
Arguably one of the most famous romance movies of all time, “Titanic” has been causing tears since its very first screening. Based on the real sinking of the ship, “Titanic” follows two star-crossed lovers, Rose and Jack, who fall for each other despite being from two very different backgrounds. Told through a flashback from Rose, the story of romance unfurls atop one of the biggest maritime disasters in history, and has sparked mass outrage over its ending that is still causing debate today.
6. Wuthering Heights
If you’re looking for a cinema experience for a Valentine’s Day date, look no further than the film deemed this holiday’s superstar. “‘Wuthering Heights’” has been advertised as the romance film of the year, adapting the classic Emily Brontë novel of the same title. With the opening date of the film slated for Valentine’s Day itself, there’s no doubt this one will be pulling in all of the couples for a popcorn-filled date night featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.
