On Sunday afternoon, Iowa women’s tennis fell to Wichita State in the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreational Complex. This 4-2 loss against the Shockers is the Hawkeyes’ third loss in a row.
There were three doubles matches to start off the day, ending with Iowa going 1-3. The Hawkeyes continued to win the first few sets of 5-6 on the floor, but couldn’t put up back to back sets to beat their opponents.
In the final match, Wichita State Giorgia Roselli forfeited her match against Iowa Daianne Hayashida. After a back and forth where Hayashida won the first set and lost the second, the third was going her way as she was up 5-2. When Roselli was up to serve she held the ball and never wound up serving. She saw her fellow Shocker Kristina defeat Iowa Pia Kranholdt 6-0 in the final set and knew Wichita State had won, so she decided to call it a day.
Iowa heads to Ames for the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series in on Sunday, Feb. 15, at noon CST.
