Fire departments from seven Johnson County communities, including Iowa City, Swisher, Tiffin, Solon, Oxford, North Liberty, and West Branch, responded to a two-story house fire in rural Iowa City Tuesday.

No injuries were reported, and the North Liberty Fire Department is investigating the cause, with no damage estimate at this time. 

According to a release from the City of North Liberty, the North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched to 3045 Forest Ridge Drive at 9:03 a.m. after a call from a neighbor reported smoke coming from the residence. 

First on the scene was a Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy, who “reported heavy fire conditions from the rear of the structure,” according to the release.

Iowa City Engine 1 arrived shortly after and treated the fire in the spot as described by the deputy. 

North Liberty Fire Department firefighters later entered and searched the building, revealing no victims. 

According to the release, a combination of low temperatures, strong winds, and the lack of nearby fire hydrants made attempts to mitigate the fire more difficult. These conditions required the “activation of a third alarm to supply water and personnel.” 

Following a request for additional information regarding department response, Iowa City Public Information Officer Lee Hermiston directed The Daily Iowan to the existing release sent out by the City of North Liberty and declined to comment further.
