In a surprising move Tuesday afternoon, Iowa starting safety Koen Entringer entered the transfer portal, per ESPN.
Last month when preparing for Iowa’s bowl game against Vanderbilt, Entringer was unclear about his exact future at Iowa. He participated in Senior Day back in November, and Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz told reporters on Dec. 18 he believed the defensive back would return for an extra season of eligibility.
Yet on Dec. 26 at Iowa’s bowl game practice, Entringer didn’t confirm Ferentz’s proclamation, adding he was focused on preparation for Vanderbilt and would “maybe” announce his decision after the contest. About a week after the Hawkeyes’ victory over the Commodores, it appears such a choice was made.
Hailing from Arizona and a graduate of Walled Lake High School in Michigan, Entringer redshirted his freshman season before becoming a key contributor on defense and special teams. He played in 39 games over the last three seasons, including 13 starts in 2025 as a team captain. He finished the season with a career-high 73 total tackles, four pass break-ups, and no interceptions. Entringer leaves Iowa with 100 career tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Entringer is the sixth Hawkeye to enter the portal after the conclusion of the regular season, joining backup quarterback Jackson Stratton, running backs Terrell Washington and Jaziun Patterson, defensive lineman Brian Allen, and starting punter Rhys Dakin. Of the group, Dakin is the only to find his next home, committing to Michigan State, where Iowa special teams coordinator LeVar Woods is now an associate head coach.
