NEW YORK – The Iowa Hawkeyes fell to the UConn Huskies 64-90 in the Shark Beauty Women’s Champions Classic in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday evening. Iowa’s record now sits at 10-2.
In the first quarter, the No.1 Huskies built a double-digit lead leaving the Hawkeyes down 12-22. The second quarter the Hawkeyes racked up 19 points and three turnovers. Second quarter action wasn’t enough leaving the Hawkeyes 31-42 going into the second half. UConn put the game away in the third quarter scoring the first six points.
Closing the game senior Hannah Stuelke stood out with 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Behind her was sophomore Chit-Chat Wright with 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Overall, the Hawkeyes shot 49 percent from the field and 47 percent from behind.
Iowa is back at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 3 p.m. CST, to host the Penn State Nittany Lions.
