In the 2025-2026 Indoor Track and Field Season-opener, the Iowa Hawkeyes hosted the Jimmy Grant Track and Field Invitational at the Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday. Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025. The Hawkeyes collected 11 individuals titles in the invitational alongside multiple notable performances.
The Hawkeyes hosted the universities of Central Iowa, Grinnell, Judson, Northern Iowa, South Central Iowa, Western Illinois, and William Penn.
In a dominating performance, the Hawkeyes collected six individual first place titles in field events. Carlee Rochford collected two first place titles, winning the Women’s Pent Shot Put with 12.91 meters and Women’s Pent Long Jump with 5.74 meters. In the Women’s Weight Throw event, Peyton Wilson threw a 18.04 to secure the Jimmy Grant title. In the Men’s Weight Throw, Ryan Johnson secured a first place victory with a 23.95 meter throw alongside his teammates, Sean Smith and Austin Busch, who placed second and third place. Wisdom Williams and Lovisa Ulvenstam concluded the field events with first place victories in the Women’s Shot Put (Williams – 15.38 meters) and Women’s Triple Jump (Ulvenstam: 12.37 meters).
In track events, the Hawkeyes did not stay shy away from the leaderboard with multiple top-5 finishes. Carlee Rochford, with her third 1st place finish of the meet, secured a personal record in the Women’s Pent 60mH with a 8.66 time. Men Hept 60 mH runner, Sal Capaldo, also secured a personal record of 8.20 and received second place in the event. Iowa’s Julia Gehl placed first in the Women’s mile event alongside Damaris Mutunga’s first place victory in the Women’s 600m race (1:29:03). Blake Nyenati pinned a first place finish in the Men’s 60mH (7.73) with teammate Hayden Kuhn also securing a first place victory in the Men’s 3000m event. In the concluding event of the night, the Iowa men and women placed 1st (Iowa Women’s Track and Field) and second (Iowa Men’s Track and Field) in the 4x400m event.
One of the most notable performances of the night occured from UNI runner, Carter Morton, who broke the UNI School Record for the Men’s Hept 1000m Race. Morton secured a personal record of 2:45.76.
