Off a dominant performance as runner-ups at the NCAA National Duals, the No. 3 Iowa Hawkeyes (5-1) hosted the No. 21 Pittsburgh Panthers in a top-25 dual matchup at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025. The Hawkeyes defeated the Panthers with a 36-0 shut out with multiple ranked matchups.

Last week, the Iowa Hawkeyes placed second at the NCAA National Duals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The championships, although tough fought, ended with the Ohio State Buckeyes defeating the Hawks 27-12. The Hawkeyes claimed victories against No. 16 Mizzou (34-3), No. 15 Illinois (24-13), and No. 5 ranked Oklahoma State (18-16). The Hawkeyes claimed notable performances by sophomore No.10 Ryder Block, transfer No. 8 Massoma Endene, and transfer No.7 Dean Petersen.

Notable performances include an unranked 149 pound sophomore, Ryder Block, defeated No. 6 Josh Edmond by a 2-1 decision in the first NCAA Dual matchup against No. 16 Missouri. Block would then defeat No. 3 ranked Casey Swiderski in a 5-3 decision vs No. 5 Oklahoma State, exceeding his ranking to now No. 10 at 149 pound weight class. In the semi final dual against No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Dean Petersen defeated No. 2 Troy Sprately by a 5-4 decision. No. 8 Massoma Endene and BigTen Wrestler of the Week No. 3 Angelo Ferrari went undefeated in the NCAA National Duals.

In the top-25 matchup, the dual started at 125 pounds with No. 7 Dean Petersen vs Tyler Chappel. Petersen scored early with a takedown in the first period and escape in the second. Petersen defeated Chappel by 4-1 decision.

At 133 pounds, No. 3 Drake Ayala won by major decision over No. 32 opponent Evan Talmadge, gaining early bonus points for the Hawkeyes with a 7-0 lead followed by No 8 Nasir Bailey victory against Anthony Santaniello in a 4-2 decision. The Hawkeyes leading 10-0.

In the first top 20 matchup of the night, No. 10 Ryder Block defeated No. 20 Kade Brown in a 12-2 major decision at 149 pounds followed by Victor Voinovich III 11-6 decision victory against Vince Bouzakis.

After a brief intermission, No. 3 Micheal Caliendo defeated No. 25 Dylan Evans in 22-6 tech fall. No. 2 Patrick Kennedy continued the momentum with a victory against No. 14 ranked Luca Augustine by 11-2 decision.

For the first time this season, Gabe Arnold returned to the mat at 184 pounds and welcomed crowd with a 15-5 major decision agains Chase Kranitz. In the post-dual press conference, Arnold expressed his gratitude and excitement for what comes forward the rest of the 2025-2026 season, implying a potential weight class switch for the upcoming Soldier Salute tournament at X-treme Arena in December. 

In the most anticipated matchup of the dual, No. 8 Massoma Endene went face-to-face against No.4 Mac Stout. With an early takedown by Stout in the first thirty seconds of the first period, Endene faced difficulty with the early power shift. After a successful escape, the score was 3-1. Starting the second period on bottom, Stout received an escape point, resulting in a 4-1 score. In the third period, fans and the Hawkeye bench erupted in frustration with a questionable absence of stall calls for Stout. However, with the clock ticking down to ten seconds remaining, Endene shot a low double nearly out of bounce to receive a three-point take down as time expired.

No. 6 Kueter closed the night off with a 2-0 decision against No. 12 Dayton Pitzer although absent in the NCAA National Duals due to a suspected injury.
