Jacob Payne operates the optical metrology system and interferometer in Van Allen Hall on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025. Payne, a physics and astronomy student, won the NASA FINESST award, which will come into effect on Jan, 1, 2026. The money from the grant has already been given to the University of Iowa to use in the lab.
