The University of Iowa has moved the iconic “Ridge and Furrow” sculpture from the T. Anne Cleary Walkway outside the Pomerantz Career Center to outside the Medical Education and Research Facility.
According to UI officials public art installations are moved from time to time, and the new location “provides a fresh opportunity for engagement.”
The sculpture was commissioned and placed on the T. Anne Cleary walkway in 2011 and was created by Peter Randall-Page, a british sculptor and artist, who has created dozens of public art installations similar to the one on the UI campus.
The ridges on the rock are hand carved and are in a continuous loop. The asymmetrical design is likened to the hemisphere’s of the brain, according to a UI webpage on the installation.
